Is the postponement of the talks to November 5 due to the foreign travel of the President or the deep-rooted split between the parties? At the end of the first session of the renewed roundtable talks, the participants decided to postpone the next session until November 5. Does the overextended period reflect a deep political stalemate that reflects the difficulty of reaching a consensus, or that the date is subject to the foreign travel schedule of President Suleiman? |

The president had prescheduled visits and he should abide by his commitments as a president. These visits are in Lebanon’s interest but certainly this issue is not the main reason for postponing the next National Dialogue session to the 5th of November. Some parties suggested that this period of time would allow more reconciliations to take place. But the dialogue should resume because it’s the first step to any real reconciliation since the only hanging issue is the defense strategy.
